Collective Church Update: Closing Our Doors

An Important Update from Collective Church

Collective Church leadership has made the difficult decision to close the church. While our priority has always been to offer a safe, inclusive space to learn about God and grow in community, the church is also a business. Unfortunately, that business is no longer financially viable. As leaders of the church, we aim to be faithful stewards of the financial resources we inherited and the additional gifts we've received since taking over the church in January.

In order to best serve our members and our DFW community, we will be closing Collective Church and donating the remainder of our finances to our nonprofit partners.

Services will continue through July, with our final service taking place Sunday, July 31, 2022. Leadership will continue the process of dissolving the church throughout the month of August and Collective Church will officially close August 31, 2022.

We've been honored and blessed to find one another and have this community for 8+ years, and are so grateful to have welcomed new members into the Collective Church family since our leadership change in January. We have absolutely no regrets in fighting to keep our doors open, and are grateful to each one of you who have continued to attend services, listen to our messages online, and pray for us.

There are hard feelings that come with any change, but especially the breakup and scattering of a faith community. While we're heartbroken to be saying goodbye to Collective Church, we welcome the opportunity to take the lessons we've learned and the spirit of inclusion and love into future spaces.

As Sean said in last week's sermon, grief and anger are holy feelings. It's okay to feel the grief and anger in all its forms. God can handle our emotions - no matter how big.

Thank you all for your prayers and presence, whether in-person or virtual, over the past 6 months and the 8 years before that. Our church truly has been a Collective - a community of love and support. Thank you for showing grace and peace to our leaders and each other, even during difficult transitions and hard conversations.

We know God is not contained to a church building or even a church community. May the presence of the Divine bring you peace and hope as your family moves forward.

A Prayer to Remember God’s Presence

God, whose creative glory we see in the rushing wind and the swirling waters,
whose love is revealed in the smile of a child,
will remain with us.
God, whom we have discovered in the scriptures, and who has discovered us,
who comes clear to us in Jesus and in the lives of Their created people,
will remain with us.
God, whom we encounter in worship and in the service of our communities,
whose Spirit is within the caring and the justice-seeking of this church,
will remain with us.
God, gracefully known in the hard places of our earthly life’s journey,
who laughs and celebrates joyfully with us here,
will remain with us.
God, who will be with us as this life ends,
who is with us in time and beyond time,
will remain with us.
Let us worship our loving and faithful God.
